Boris Schematics

The Eagle files are zipped into one tidy package, for easy downloading. It seems our friends at Microsoft use the SCH suffix for one of their files, which interferes with some browsers.

Hey! The previous Boris boards, as I've mentioned in the past, seriously violate the KISS principle. It seems that KISS isn't just a good idea, but a serious guideline that you neglect at your own peril. This new set of boards are simple, robust, and are currently showing good behavior on the robot itself. What more could you ask for from your brains?

All of these schematics and board layouts are done in Eagle, from CADSoft. This is a very capable German package, at a quite reasonable cost -- including free versions and demos.

Media:brain.zip Boris Brains, all in one board, version 5.2. 8MHz AT90S8515, voltage rectifier and regulator, 32K battery-backup SRAM, nine bits of A/D (though 16 bits are possible but no connectors are laide for it), RS485 communications bus with two ports, in-circuit programmable, six (of eight possible) MOSFET drivers (with indicators), eight debugging LEDs plus the heartbeat, and a bunch of screw-down header blocks. Not to mention ground and power planes, for robust noise resistance.
